Coming soon AC locals for Mumbai

After long delays it seems Mumbaikars will get a taste of first AC local ride within few months or latest by early next year if all goes as per plan. According to Hemant Kumar, General Manager (WR), “We are expecting rakes to come by November and we are hopeful that we can begin services by January.”The first air-conditioned train in the city is expected to run between Churchgate and Borivli.
Sources said since only one AC rake is being manufactured, it would not be possible to run more than 12 services – both on the fast and slow tracks – in a day. To begin with, the service will run between Churchgate-Borivli and Churchgate-Andheri. According to tentative plans, four services will be between Andheri and Churchgate and eight more will run between Churchgate and Borivli. The coaches will have longitudinal seating and carry about 400 commuters. The coach, whose manufacturing cost is estimated to be Rs 4 crore, will have longitudinal seating and would be able to accommodate 400 commuters, including standees. Around 4,500 commuters will be able to board the 12-car rake.
