Here’s some good news for commuters from Eastern Suburbs who use the Dharavi-Sion link road , LBS Road and Sion Circle to go to BKC. The state government will soon start constructing a 1.6 km connecting road between BKC and Eastern Express Highway.
“Construction of the Bandra Kurla Complex-Chunabhatti connector will commence in a few weeks, as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will issue a work order soon. As we have received the final environment clearance which was required.”, said an official from MMRDA. The link will begin at begin at G block market in BKC and end at Somaiya Trust ground, Chunnabhatti. It will cross Mithi river, LBS marg, Centrail Railway tracks, Duncan Causeway road, Chunabhatti bus terminus and Harbour rail line.
Remarks Sanjeev Anand a commuter from Kurla, “Let us hope the MMRDA completes this bridge this year itself, as it will serve great deal of time and my petrol.” Agrees Rajesh Raman, who travels to BKC from Ghatkopar every day, “The Sion-Dharavi link road is so very much congested , it takes more than 30 minutes just to clear that stretch. If this connector is constructed it would definitely help motorists like us.” The cost of the project is pegged at Rs 203 crore.
