Congress accuses Gujarat Police of hushing up case against Modi

The Congress Monday accused the Gujarat Police of trying to hush up the case registered against Narendra Modi for violating the model code of conduct.
In a letter to the Election Commission, the Congress said: "It is noticed that crime branch, Gujarat Police is trying to hush up the case registered against Modi on the directions of the commission, by falsely portraying in public that no case is made out."
"It is absolutely misconceived, misleading and untenable. The obvious conclusion is that no fair and honest investigation is being conducted or is possible by police of Gujarat, who are under total influence of Modi, being the chief minister," it said. The Congress said since the Gujarat Police is "biased", there was no hope that fair, proper and independent investigation would be conducted.
"In the circumstance, it is necessary that investigation may be ordered to be transferred and conducted by an agency from outside Gujarat or by the commission itself or by any other agency as may be considered appropriate," the letter said.
