Cop rams bike; leaves victim bleeding
A cop attached to the Nagpada Motor Vehicle department is accused of hit and run case. Constable Nilesh Kinjalkar fled after his van hit two youths on a bike near Chunabhatti on Wednesday – leaving them profusely bleeding. Umesh Dakua, 22, one of the boys, is in comma now in Sion hospital.
 
An RTO official   instantly chased the belligerent cop and handed him over to the Chunabhatti police station. The constable works as a driver for the department.The accident occured around 7.30 pm. Umesh and his friend Rahul Vinayakar (21) were going towards Ghatkopar when the police van rammed them. While Umesh slipped into coma, Rahul fortunately escaped with minor injuries.
 
The victims, both students and residents of Ghatkopar, were returning from Somaiya hospital in Chunabhatti after collecting reports of Umesh’s ailing grandmother.
Umesh is in critical condition now.
 
An NGO, Human Rights Mission, is providing assistance to the distressed family.
Prashant Singh Thakur,  the said NGO’s member said, “It is shocking that a cop ran away after an accident. He should have rushed him to the hospital. That would have saved a lot of time.”The constable has been arrested and produced him in the court. He was booked for negligence, rash driving, causing serious injuries and fleeing from the spot without helping the victim.
