Disabled children to get pension in UP

Disabled children in Uttar Pradesh will now be entitled for monthly pension from the state government, an official said Monday.
Instructions for this were issued by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, following which some amendments are being made in the pension scheme guidelines.
If the disabled person is less than 18 years of age and his parents meet the criterion, under the Samajwadi pension Scheme that person would get pension on priority basis, an official said.
Under the scheme, the beneficiaries would get a monthly pension of Rs.500-700. The scheme was announced in March but was shelved on the directive of the Election Commission (EC) as the Lok Sabha polls were to be held.
Under a similar central welfare scheme, such pension benefits are extended to the disabled people above the age of 18 years, thus a large section of these needy remain out of the purview of the scheme, officials said.
