EC toughens posture, asks parties to submit videos of public meetings within six hours

In the backdrop of a string of vituperative diatribes by politicians in various states, the Election Commission (EC) has directed political parties to submit unedited video recordings of their speeches to the poll panel.
"Political groups are required to submit unedited CDs of video recordings of their speeches to the EC within six hours of their political rallies," Amitjyoti Bhattacharya, assistant CEO, West Bengal, told media persons in Kolkata.
The senior electoral officers are directed to closely monitor campaigns on a day to day basis and initiate swift legal action against leaders making hate speeches, as per the EC order. The commission has also asked the district administrations in the state to start simultaneous proceedings for the model code of conduct violations and electoral offences.
"After confirming the factual proof, the DM and SP shall make sure that legal action like filing of FIR is initiated without delay. Further course of action will be closely monitored and the action taken shall be brought to the notice of the CEO immediately and also to the public knowledge through the media." the EC order said.
