Eight people drown during Ganesh idol immersions

Eight people drowned in the Yamuna river during immersions of Lord Ganesha's idols here Wednesday, police said, adding the toll might go up.
The incidents were reported from different Yamuna ghats of north Delhi's Wazirabad, Burari and east Delhi's Sonia Vihar areas.
"At least five bodies were fished out from Wazirabad, two from Burari and one from Sonia Vihar area," said a police officer.
A police officer said at least 10 people drowned at Wazirabad ghat from where five were rescued while five were taken out dead.
The deceased were identified as Rajesh, 25, Toshi, 25, Rahul 31, Kale, 31, and Yogesh Kumar, 20.
While the bodies of Sunny, 22, and Bhagat, 20, were fished out from Sonia Vihar, Bhagat, 45, was brought out from Burari.
The officer said rescue operations were on as police had received several calls related to drowning from Wednesday afternoon.
Last year, five people had drowned at Wazirabad ghat during idol immersions.
