Eighth anniversary of 26/11 observed in Mumbai today
Mumbai, Nov 26:The city that never sleeps, paused today as it remembered the martyrs and the civilians who had lost their lives in the deadliest terror attack Mumbai had seen in recent times 8 years ago.
The official commemoration event was held at Police Gymkhana, Marine Lines where Maharashtra Governor C. V. Rao laid a wreath and led the state in paying homage to all those who lost their lives in the terror attacks.
The terrorists, who sneaked in through the sea on trawlers and fishing boats had struck at multiple locations within a small geographical area in south Mumbai with massive firing and the ultimate take over attempt of the Trident and Tak hotel properties in the vicinity.
Maharastra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Director-General of Police Satish Mathur, Mumbai Police Commissioner Datta Padsalgikar, Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray, several parliamentarians and legislators were all present at the solemn ceremony where they met with the family members of the martyred police officers and constables. The police band played out tunes dedicated to the valour of their lost comrades.
Remembrance functions were also organised at important sites such as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Hotel Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Hotel Trident-Oberoi, Nariman House-Chabad House, Leopold Café and others.Several other functions, peace marches, memorial concerts and condolence meetings are scheduled later in the day to mark the eighth anniversary of 26/11.
