Cuttack: On Sunday, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu raised the issue of false and paid news and said these instances are troubling as media play a major role in a democracy.

"I would like to alert everyone that we live by our value system and ethics, "he said. Naidu spoke to a gathering in Cuttack to mark the 100th anniversary of an Odia daily newspaper.

"Media should not go for sensationalization just because of rivalry and motivation for TRPs. Learn Hindi, English, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada or even French. But first, promote your own mother tongue". he said.
