Goa politicians linked to drug mafia'

There is evidence to suggest some Goa politicians have links to the drug mafia, the chairman of a legislative committee probing the alleged nexus said Saturday.
Legislative committee chairman Francisco Pacheco said police was not co-operating and accused it of showing reluctance in sharing data and intelligence reports on politicians linked to drug mafia here.
"There is (political) involvement of course. I do not deny it," Pacheco, also Goa Vikas Party convenor, told reporters at a press conference in the state capital.
"I have formally written to the chief minister (Manohar Parrikar) about the non-cooperation by the police department," the legislator from Nuvem said.
The committee was set up last year to probe politician-drug mafia connection after an Israeli drug dealer's ex-girlfriend accused former home minister Ravi Naik's son of having drug mafia links.
Both Naik and his son have denied the charge.
However, Fiona Mackeown, mother of killed British teenager Scarlett Keeling, had also accused the duo in a trial court of having links to the drug mafia.
Keeling, 15, was drugged, raped, and murdered in February 2008 in Goa where she was holidaying.
"I will be tabling the report during the assembly's winter session next month, so it will be improper to reveal anything now," Pacheco said.
