Hasina to launch work on Russian n-plant in Bangladesh

Bangladesh Premier Sheikh Hasina will Wednesday inaugurate the groundwork at the 2,000 megawatt (MW) Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) in Pabna in the country's north-west.
"Prime Minister of Bangladesh Seikh Hasina will lay the first stone in the foundation of the NPP Rooppur," the Russian State Atomic Energy Commission (Rosatom) said in a press statement. Signing of the contract on the project's full-scale engineering development is planned for Wednesday, the statement added.
Rosatom will build operate, provide fuel to the plant and ensure that the waste is taken away regularly to Russia. The Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission will implement the project, total cost of which has been estimated at between $1.5 billion and $2 billion.The RNPP is projected to produce 1,000 MW of electricity by June 2017 and another 1,000 MW by 2022.
