Heavy and uninterrupted rain with torrential wind lashed Mumbai for 24 hours and put life to a standstill in the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region including Thane and Kalyan. Schools in MMR have been asked to remain closed on Thursday due to flooding in certain low lying areas in the region.
Meanwhile, the government has issued advisory to citizens to remain indoors until there is any pressing need to go out.
The BMC has warned the people inhabiting low-lying areas to move out to safer locations to avoid getting stranded in case of flooding.
Local trains were running much behind schedule, with commuters found to be stranded on platforms.
