Two seers have decided to work for Narendra Modi’s defeat in Varanasi as they believe he is a "sinner" in the 2002 Gujarat riots.
Puri Shankaracharya Swami Adhokshjanand Devtirath on Thursday informed he will visit Varanasi and campaign against the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate for the May 12 elections.
"I will go to Varanasi and expose him. Those who divide people to come to power should be exposed," he revealed.
He said Modi has unleashed “violence” and no peace-loving individual can ever "endorse" his actions.
The Shankaracharya divulged he had himself visited Gujarat and observed the situation after the 2002 riots.
He blamed RSS for misusing religion to "delude" the people. He said it should come to the surface as a political organisation rather than a social-cultural body.
The Shankaracharya said BJP politicos were already made statements which were creating tension in the country.
He informed he would not crusade for any political party but just ensured that secular parties should win.
Dwarka Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand who is also opposed to Modi, will soon be deputing his close associate Swami Avi Mukteswaranand to Varanasi to campaign against Modi, sources said. Because of poor health he could not travel to Varanasi, informed his aide.
Swaroopanand had recently objected to 'Har Har Modi' slogan, saying it amounted to "worship" of a man and "god will stop Modi" if it was not stopped.
Realising a religious controversy, Modi had instantly requested his supporters to refrain from raising such slogans.
