Every year the Mumbai Traffic Police (MTP) come out in full strength during Holi celebrations and do their job efficiently, this year too things were no different. The traffic police with the support of local police booked more than 775 drunk drivers on Friday. A total of 15,218 cases of traffic violations were recorded.
There was a rise of 21% compared to last year in the number of cases booked. "We had identified 70 locations across the city where bandobast were carried out. Nearly 1,600 police personnel were deployed. The crackdown began around 3pm on Thursday," said joint commissioner (traffic) BK Upadhyaya.
"There were fewer motorcyclists out on the streets this year as compared to previous years. We had also given attention to safety of women on the streets," he added. "We had 253 instances this year where more than two people were found travelling on a motorcycle. This is risky as the biker could lose balance and hit another vehicle," said a police official.
