India unrelenting on IWT but pushing for Teesta deal

New Delhi, March 27: In what can be seen as a major landmark in how India approaches issues with neighbours it has now come to light that while remaining relentless with its stance on using its share of water under the Indus Water treaty, India will also help push for a better Teesta deal with Bangladesh. SO while Pakistan faces India's ire, Dhaka is set to get a favourable deal from India.

On the Bangladesh front, the Modi Government is working at including the Teesta water sharing agreement with Sheikh Hassina's government even if it means facing up to the wrath of an aggressive Mamta Baneerjee at the home front as she will oppose any changes due to her growing animosity towards the Modi government esp so after the demonetisation move.

On the other hand Pakistan isnt get any leverage with India as we stick to the letter of the IWT and refuse to change the design of the Miyar dam as wanted by Pakistan. India asserted that it was attending the meet on the IWT as it was mandated under the laws of the treaty and as the MEA asserted that there would be no change in Indian stance towards the dam construction or the water sharing proposal with Pakistan.

While Pakistan is waiting to go to Washington to hel seek a breakthrough with US intervention India has still not decalred if they will be attending the same meeting.
