The Karnataka High Court rejected the bail petition of incarcerated former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayaram Jayalalithaa on Tuesday.
Her fans get ecstatic after one of her lawyers earlier declared she had been granted conditional bail, which later turned out to be a damp squib. Justice A.V. Chandrashekara, who heard Jayalalithaa's petition, also declined to suspend the four-year jail term even after Special Public Prosecutor G. Bhavani Singh submitted he had no objection to the bail.
Jayalalitha, one of the mercurial politicians, was jailed last month for four years on corruption charges. She was found guilty of amassing unaccounted wealth.
A large number of Jayas supporters reached the city of Bangalore in order to display their solidarity for Amma. Jaya fondly known as Amma (Mother), receive adoration from her followers. A charismatic film personality earlier, she pulled large number of fans from Tamilnadu besides other neighbouring states.
