Islamabad, Jan 31: Jammat-ud-Dawah (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of Mumbai terror attack, was placed under house arrest in Lahore as stated by media reports in Pakistan. The move after the new Amercian administrstion mounted serious pressure on the Pakistani etablishement to take action agaisnt the terrorist as soon as possible.
The reports were furhter confirmed by Dawn News which quoted JuD's secretary of information, NAdeem Awan as saying that, "a large police team arrived (at JuD headquarters) and told us that Hafiz would be placed under house arrest along with five others." The Pakistani Government launched a crackdown against JuD by deploying large contingents of police close to the JuD headquarter and offices in Pakistan's Muridke and Lahore.
At the time of arrest, Hafiz Saeed was reportedly present at the Qudsia Mosque located in Chauburji area of Lahore. Police sources further informed that Saeed will be shifted to his residence in the Johar Town area of the provincial capital, which will then be declared as a sub-jail.
JuD is the front for the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfit which is responsible for the Mumbai terror strike of November 26, 2008. It has already been declared as a foreign terrorist organisation by the US in June 2014. The move could help Indo Pak relations with the help of American Government's intervention.
The arrest will also help in curbing the rising incidences of infiltration across the Kashmir valley most of which is funded by Hafeez's JuD.
