Kherwadi flyover to be serviceable from Monday
Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority will throw open the south-bound stretch of the Kherwadi flyover, on Monday. “The flyover is almost ready and finishing touches are being given. It will be thrown open to public on Monday,” said UPS Madan, MMRDA Commissioner.

In other words, vehicular traffic coming from the western suburbs can go to Sion,Mahim and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link by avoiding the signal at Kherwadi junction, and thus saving the precious ten to fifteen minutes. The flyover, which begins from government Polytechnic College and ends about fifty meter before the Kalanagar flyover, will not only ensure smooth dispersal of vehicles, but also reduce travel time of commuters.

MMRDA had started work on the south-bound stretch of the flyover in November 2013. To avoid grave inconvenience to commuters on the Western Express Highway, MMRDA decided to undertake construction arm-by-arm on an arterial road and to tackle the south-bound stretch first.

The construction of the flyover has been routinely causing traffic jams between Kalanagar and Santacruz. Traffic on the north-bound side of the highway is also likely to be hit once construction begins.
