Monsoon brings cheers to citizens as the reservoirs in various regions  filled to its brim, Though the monsoon getting delayed to arrive in many regions but made up with a good rainfall bringing the water reserves level up to its needs.

The Western region, which includes States of Gujarat and Maharashtra, has 22 reservoirs or lakes having total storage capacity of 24.54 BCM. The total storage available in these lakes is 19.18BCM which is 78% of their total storage capacity. The storage during corresponding period of last year was 77% and average storage of last ten years during corresponding period was 74% of storage capacity of these reservoirs. Thus, storage during current year is better than storage of last year and also better than the average storage of last ten years.

The northern region, which includes States of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan has 6 reservoirs having total storage capacity of 18.01 BCM. The total storage available in these reservoirs is 14.86BCM which is 83% of total storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during corresponding period of last year was 94% and average storage of last ten years during corresponding period was 78% of storage capacity of these reservoirs. Thus, storage during current year is less than the corresponding period of last year but better than the average storage of last ten years during the corresponding period.

The Eastern region includes States of Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Tripura. The 15 reservoirs in this region have total live storage capacity of 18.83 BCM. The total storage available in these reservoirs is 14.12 BCM which is 75% of total storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during corresponding period of last year was 79% and average storage of last ten years during corresponding period was 70% of storage capacity of these reservoirs. Thus, storage during current year is less than the corresponding period of last year but better than the average storage of last ten years during the corresponding period.

The Central region includes States of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. There are 12 reservoirs in this region having total storage capacity of 42.30BCM. The total storage available in these reservoirs is 34.73BCM which is 82% of total storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during corresponding period of last year was 87% and average storage of last ten years during corresponding period was 62% of storage capacity of these reservoirs. Thus, storage during current year is less than the storage of last year but better than the average storage of last ten years.

The Southern region includes States of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. There are 30 reservoirs in this region having total storage capacity of 51.37 BCM. The total storage available in these reservoirs is 36.89BCM which is 72% of total storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during corresponding period of last year was 80% and average storage of last ten years during corresponding period was 78% of live storage capacity of these reservoirs. Thus, storage during current year is less than the corresponding period of last year and also less than the average storage of last ten years during the corresponding period.

States showing better storage than last year for corresponding period are Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. States having equal storage to last year for corresponding period are Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Karnataka. States having lesser storage than last year for corresponding period are Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Odisha, West Bengal, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
