We are definitely heading towards anarchy as every other day rapes hog lime light at one or the other place in India. This time a law officer in Pune who used to adjudicate similar cases has find himself got embroiled in a rape controversy. The accused, who was on good terms with the victim’s family, allegedly enticed the victim with the promise of presents and then outraged her modesty.

A judicial magistrate at Khandala court in Satara district was held by the police on charges of raping his 14-year-old neighbor in the Ambegaon Pathar area in Pune. The accused, Nagraj Sudam Shinde (35) has been absconding since an FIR was registered against him at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station. 

According to sources, Shinde and the victim both stayed in the same apartment and they have good familial relations. She would often visit his house to play carrom. Around 28 days back, when Shinde’s wife who was expecting child went to her mother’s place; he allegedly seduced the minor with a promise of gold rings and a flat and cell phone and later raped her.

“Shinde had warned her of dire repercussions if she informs anyone about the incident. However when she felt pain in her private parts, she confided about the entire episode to her mother,” said Police Inspector. The girl’s father approached the women’s grievance cell at the NGO Janiv Sanghatna, and narrated the incident to Kanchan Ghode, the vice president there. With the help of the NGO, the family registered an FIR against Shinde.

While the girl is a std X student at a prominent institution in Pune, the police informed Shinde had not been reporting to work for six months. They are presently probing whether he was on leave or had been fired.
