Mamata sets 'record' of holding meetings in districts

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday claimed to have set a "record" of holding three administrative meetings in every district of the state after she came to power two and a half years ago.
The chief minister held an administrative meeting in Nadia district Wednesday.
"With today's meeting, we have set a record of holding three administrative meetings in every district in just two and a half years," Banerjee said at a programme in Krishnanagar in the district.
After coming to power, Banerjee had assured of taking the state secretariat to the districts and to the people's doorsteps.
She has been regularly holding administrative meetings across the districts, taking stock of the progress of various government schemes.
Eager to change the work culture in the state, Banerjee has asked government officials to rev up their functioning and ensure speedy implementation of projects.
A self-confessed "workaholic", Banerjee has often publicly pulled up government officials for slow work.
She has now issued a target-oriented administrative calendar to various government departments.
"No project can be left pending. All projects have to be taken care of. Talk less, work more," Banerjee has been saying in many meetings.
Accompanied by key officials and ministers, the chief minister during visits to the districts has laid foundation stones, inaugurated innumerable projects and schemes, distributed cheques, kisan credit cards, scholarship papers etc. to beneficiaries.
During her latest visit to Murshidabad and Nadia districts Tuesday and Wednesday, Banerjee announced and inaugurated a host of projects, including hospitals, colleges and schools, fair-priced medicine shops and diagnostics centres.
