On Sunday evening the Ernakulam-Nizamuddin Mangala Express derailed near Pen station, the cause of the derailment is still unknown but sources say the Central Railway (CR) which takes care of track maintenance on the Konkan Railway route may be held responsible.
Asutosh Yadav who was travelling in the train says, “The train was going at a normal speed, when suddenly we heard a big sound and our coach received a big jerk.” Three coaches (S9, S10 and pantry car) got derailed. Officials said traffic was diverted via the loop line and services were not affected. But sources said some trains on the KR route were late.
While some passengers took the road route to Panvel station, for suburban trains, others waited for the accident relief train or boarded other trains. The MSRTC deployed additional buses.
