Of late, the 10-day safety checks for Mumbai’s Metro One project were completed on Monday, which is an essential part of the final safety certification process.
Now, based on the procedural clearance, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) will provide his nod to open the metro to the public. However, the CMRS, PS Baghel, has come across some technical matter, for which he has sought an approval from the railway board. Also, he has sought few clarifications from Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL).
According to informed sources, the CMRS is probably tendering his reports within a week, in which he will give approval for commercial operations of the metro. However, the approval is likely to come with some conditions.
“I have required few clarifications from the MMOPL. I am also in anticipation of a few approvals from the railway board,” Baghel informed.
Meanwhile, sources divulged that the metro may not be open to public before May 16 as the code of conduct for the parliamentary election will forbid authorities to hold a ostentatious function.
