Kolkata: On the second day of his visit to Kolkata, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the opposition of spreading misinformation about the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, or CAA. Addressing students at the Ramakrishna Mission headquarters in Belur Math, where he spent the night, PM Modi said, "Citizenship law is not about snatching citizenship but about giving citizenship." Modi later inaugurated the celebrations of 150 years of the Kolkata Port Trust. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also met him in what she called a courtesy call on Saturday and asked him to rethink implementing the CAA, the National Register of Citizens and the National Register of Populations.
