In a step ahead to the ambitious Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) the project has gathered further momentum as Mumbai Port Trust(BPT) and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust(JNPT) both have agreed to part their land which is required for the project.
Accordingly both have agreed to give a total of nine hectors of land for the project. The 22 km long sea link, pegged at Rs 11,000 crore for which Japanese International Co-operation Agency(JICA) has agreed to fund Rs 8,800 crore or 80% of the project cost as loan.
The sea bridge which will connect Sewri on the eastern fringes of Mumbai and Nhava Sheva in Navi Mumbai will consist of a 22 km long bridge, out of which 16.5 km will be constructed in the sea, accordingly JNPT will give four hectors, while MBPT will give five hectors of land.
Last week there was a meeting between MMRDA Commissioner UPS Madan and BPT chairman Ravi Parmar. When asked about this to UPS Madan, “We had a meeting regarding land required for the project, and BPT has agreed to give their share of land. This is very good news for the project. Other formalities will be worked upon soon.”
