A history-sheeter of sort, who had kidnapped a child in 2010 and later fled from the city after being incarcerated for his sin and posting bail, has finally caught by the city police.
The alleged offender, with the help of his two accomplices, had abducted a boy from the city’s western suburb – Bandra and had almost killed him but fortunately the cops reached there on time and foiled their nefarious plans and arrested them.
During court proceedings, the accused fled to Nallasopara and become a developer. However, the Unit IX of the Bandra Crime Branch made the arrest this time.
Identified as Pravin Chabinath Singh (30), he was the architect of a perilous kidnapping case in 2010.
A cop associated with Unit IX said, he along with his two accomplices Sandeep Omprakash Singh (22) and Ajay Keshav Singh (28) had kidnapped a boy of ten from Bandra, on February 9, 2010.
Pravin had made calls from various public booths in Vakola, Andheri, Borivli, etc and demanded a ransom amount running into lakhs from the boy’s parents. He warned to slaughter the child if not paid.
For five days, Pravin’s men held the boy captive and persistently demanded money from his parents. The wily abductor had kept a tab on the victim’s house, saw plainclothes cops investigating the case. Enraged, he told the police that he would kill the child.
On a tip-offs, cops located the spot where they had kept the child. “We surrounded the whole house in the Khadeshwari temple area in Bandra (West), where the boy was held hostage. We arrested all the accused from the spot,” the cop added, recalling that they managed to nab the accused on February 15, the day they were going to kill the child by strangulating him with the wire of a steam iron. They had also discovered medicines and chemicals that the trio had used to keep the boy in an unconscious state.
