Mumbai Metro to remain shut on Sunday till 4 pm

By ME Bureau

The Mumbai Metro services would remain suspended for more than 7 hours on July 5 as the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will carry out a statutory safety inspection on the 11.4km Mumbai Metro One corridor connecting Versova with Ghatkopar. The safety inspection would be in connection with proposed increase of maximum speed of Metro trains from 50 kmph to 80 kmph.

During the exercise there would be various trial runs for the CMRS to check Mumbai Metro’s preparedness to increase the maximum speed to 80 kmph. Informs an official from Mumbai Metro, “Mr Chetan Bakshi, will monitor trials of the trains at 80 kmph, after which he will submit a report. If the speed is increased than we can run more services.”

In a bid to ensure smooth and efficient safety exercise by the CMRS, it has been decided to keep the commercial services suspended between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm on Sunday.
