The Churchgate railway police, probing a 22-year-old woman’s allegations of being gang raped in a passageway, decide to reconstruct the incidents to establish the exact scene of crime.
The lady, who has been looking for her mental treatment, informed policemen that she was followed by five men at the subway entrance and pulled to a bushy area, where she was allegedly gang-raped.
Ironically, the subway is closed at night when the incident allegedly occurred. The police decide to take the victim to the subway, once she is medically fit, to decipher the series of events. They have videographed her account in the hospital.
Reeling through tuberculosis and asthma, the victim’s haemoglobin count is as low as five. “Doctors at Bhabha Hospital, where she is recuperating, have not confirmed sexual assault. Samples collected by the hospital have been sent to the state forensic science laboratory, but they are yet to be analysed,” senior inspector Eknath Jadhav, Churchgate GRP informed.
The police sources revealed the victim speaks inarticulately. She was absent from her Kandivli home since Friday after a fight with her parents. The victim’s father and brother works as security guards and her mother is a maid. “The victim was earlier missing from home for a month, so when she did not return this time, her parents did not lodge a complaint with the police,” railway police informed.
The testimonials of Parveen Ansari and Manisha Parve, who fed the victim and brought her to hospital, have also been taken. Women passengers aired concern about using the subway in the night. “There is a wine shop there, and consumers booze around with bottles and pass lewd comments as women pass by.
However, the GRP informs the subway does not fall under its authority. The subway is managed by the BMC and comes under the Mumbai police’s jurisdiction.
