Mumbaikars dream to travel in AC local will come true, as this year the Western Railway will run the inaugural AC local. Ramesh Sisodia a commuter from Borivili who travels daily to Churchgate says, “It will be a welcome change to travel in an AC train, let us hope that our travel will be smooth.” Echoes Ragini Khanna from Mira Road, “We are happy to hear that the third phase of MUTP project will start. But my only request is that whatever is promised in the budget the railway minister should complete it.”
The third phase of MUTP considers the development of a rail corridor between the northern suburbs of Panvel and Virar, a fast rail corridor on the harbour line of the city that links south Mumbai to the satellite town of Navi Mumbai. It also plans for the extension of harbour line services on Western Railways to Borivali instead of the existing Andheri. Commuters are happy with the announcement of having CCTV cameras in suburban trains. Remarks Darshana Patel a commuter from Ghatkopar, “As ladies we are always worried to travel in ladies coaches but with CCTV cameras atleast we can know who the offenders are and we can take necessary action.”
