Congress leader and former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit Saturday denied that she had said that the BJP should form the government in the national capital.

 

 

 "I never said BJP should form Delhi government. I merely said there is a constitutional provision and the decision rests with that provision… If a party which has been saying they can prove majority, they can form a government, they should form the government," she told CNN-IBN in an interview.

 

 Dikshit had ruffled feathers in the Congress by saying that the BJP should be given an opportunity to form the government in Delhi.

 

 "In a democracy, elected governments are always good as they represent the people. If BJP has reached such a situation that it can form government, it is good for Delhi," Dikshit had said.

 

 Delhi is under president's rule since Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal resigned as chief minister Feb 14 over the stalling of his pet anti-graft bill in the assembly.

 

 Delhi's Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung has sought President Pranab Mukherjee's approval to invite the BJP to form the government in Delhi and said that he will ask it to prove its majority within a week.

 

 Dikshit also said the way she was asked to quit as Kerala governor was not right.

 

 "The way a bureaucrat called me asking me to quit was not right. Governor is a constitutional position," she told CNN-IBN.

 

 "I suggest that parliament should come out with a law that when new government comes in, old governor should automatically resign," she added.

 

 "Anytime the central government changes, the governor should automatically go, that will be the proper thing to do, but to humiliate the position of a governor and say now you go, that too selectively, some are told to go and some have not been approached," she said.

 

 "Look how they treated Kamla Beniwal (former governor of Gujarat). Why should transfers to northeast be seen as punishment postings," she added.
