Petrol pump raided for adulteration in Thane

In the backdrop of Jawhar municipal council corporator Narendra Prabhu’s complaint that pilfering and tampering of fuel dispensing machines are rampant there, tehsildar Arun Kanoje led team raided Y C Shah Petrol pump at Jawhar taluka in Thane and sealed it for adulterating and stealing fuel early on Thursday.

"The staff has been pilfering 100 ml oil per litre," revealed tehsildar Arun Kanoje. The day when the raid took place, the stock register indicated 8,993 litre petrol and sale as 757 litre. "When we checked the tank, we found an excess of 113.92 litre," said Kanoje.

The team detected discrepancies in diesel reserve too. Though the stock showed 9,411 litre and sale was 1,049 litre, there was an additional 9,171.16 litre diesel in the machine. The petrol pump, reportedly, also violated fire safety norms.

Well placed sources in Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited informed fuel samples had been sent to laboratory for testing.
