Pongal Celebration at Dharavi
Over 1500 Tamil women congregated on the 90-feet Dharavi Road to observe "Pongal" festival by cooking the delicacy at the Sun break to mark respect to the Sun God . 
 
Pongal which coincide with makara sankaranthi is generally celebrated by cooking the rice that comes from first harvest of the season and allow the rice to boil and spill over the pot with a turmeric plant is tied around it. The other offerings include  two sticks of sugarcane in background , coconut , betel leaves, nuts  and bananas in the dish. The significance is that the house should be always overflowing with food.
