“The journey of our newly Independent nation faced serious hurdles. Remaining firm on the constitutional ideals of justice, equality, liberty and fraternity, we are moving ahead with the mission to ensure that India regains its proud place on the world stage,” the President said.

She continued by saying that India had eliminated one more remnant of the colonial past when it adopted the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, a comprehensive legal code that aligns with our constitutional ideals, in July of this year.

“The new code is oriented towards ensuring justice for the victims of crime instead of focusing on punishment alone. I see this change as a tribute to our freedom fighters,” President Murmu said.

She also emphasised the connections between India’s freedom fighters’ dreams and the hopes of the next generation, who she believes will see India return to her former glory, instilling a sense of optimism and hope in the audience.

“India is proud to be at the forefront of humankind’s battle to save the planet from the worst effects of global warming. I also urge you all to make small but effective changes in your lifestyle and contribute to the cause of dealing with the challenges of climate change,” the President said.

She said that numerous unique government initiatives have also been created to maintain women’s leadership positions. The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, a law that honours and empowers women, is one such initiative. The goal of this law is to guarantee true women’s empowerment.

She said that over a five-year period, 4.1 crore youth will benefit from the Prime Minister’s package of five employment and skill-building projects.

“Under a new government initiative, one crore youth will be doing internships in leading companies over five years. All these will be foundational contributions towards building a Viksit Bharat,” the President said.
