'Prithviraj an ideal opposition leader'

P.V.Anandpadmanabhan

BJP's chief minister designate, Devendra Phadnavis is going to head a minority government in Maharashtra and require displaying the magic number in the state Assembly in the coming days.

On the other end of the political spectrum, Prithviraj Chavan, former Chief Minister of Maharashtra will most probably hold the hot seat of opposition leader in the state assembly. He is already known for his clean and impeccable image in the state.

There were uproars in the past alleging 'policy paralysis' against the Chavan regime which moved gingerly over approving files. Paradoxically, his tenure witnessed various citizen-centric projects that addressed varied needs of the people here.

Though the Congress suffered badly in the hustings – both in the Lok Sabha as well as the recently concluded state assembly elections, the citizens want a change not only on the Treasury Bench but also on the opposition's front. At both these places they want to see clean faces.
