A radioactive leak suspected to be from medical equipment stored in a Turkish Airlines flight was detected at Delhi’s international airport on Friday, sparking panic and prompting authorities to cordon off the cargo area.
But the leakage was later plugged.
Earlier, two cargo workers were rushed to hospital as a 10-member Chemical Biological Radioactive and Nuclear energy team of the NDRF reached the airport to contain the leak.
“Passenger movement at Terminal 3 has not been affected," an airport official said.
Authorities told HT four of 10 packets containing radioactive material that came from Istanbul may have triggered the leak. Sources said the packets were for a hospital to treat cancer patients.
“Our team is there to minimise the damage,” NDRF chief OP Singh said.
Doctors were also at the airport to help authorities check the contamination, officials said.
