Heavy rains in the past 24 hours in Mumbai has broken many records. According to officials of  India Meteorological Department (IMD), so far the city has received more than 1000 mm of rains in June, which is a new record.

The city also recorded the highest single-day rainfall of this season in the 24 hours ending Friday afternoon of 257 mm.  According to the IMD officials, the Colaba and Santa Cruz weather stations recorded rainfall of 228 mm and 174 mm rainfall respectively in the 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Wednesday.

Since June 1, the Colaba and Santa Cruz weather stations have registered 1138 mm and 1027 mm of rain respectively. The IMD has issued a warning of heavy rainfall for the next 48 hours in the region. “The weather conditions are favourable for heavy rainfall. Due to an active offshore trough and an upper air cyclonic circulation close to the Gujarat coast, heavy rainfall is expected in the next two days in Mumbai,” said VK Rajeev, director of IMD Mumbai.
