Fresh from winning the state elections Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party is mulling to provide ration at the doorsteps of 17 lakh beneficiaries in Delhi. It is pertinent to note that subsidized ration was already being provided under National Food Security, 2013 through fair price shops. Once implemented, people in Delhi will no longer have to queue up at fair price shops for getting ration. 

Importantly in its previous term Aam Aadmi Party had rolled out doorstep delivery of many essential services such as delivery of caste, income certificates and driving license. Doorstep delivery of ration was pending due to Centre-state conflict. In 2018 the Delhi government had passed a bill to provide subsidized rations at doorsteps of people, it was conceptualized that government will pack the ration and deliver them directly to the people.

Delhi Food and Civil Supplies Minister gave the go ahead to doorstep delivery scheme. The minister has directed the Commissioner Food and Supplies to ensure that this is implemented without any delay which will go a long way in helping the poor and needy to obtain their ration under National Food Security Act, 2013, at their doorstep.
