Devastation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan with deadly atomic strikes by the US during world war ll had literally shaken the global community then. The destruction on such large scale had witnessed over one lakh sixty thousand people dead and several thousand crippled. The after effects were more distressing as the bombing and radiation claimed over three lakh lives over the years. Japan is yet to come out from the trauma it underwent during those harrowing days.
Marking the 69th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima on Wednesday, the City Mayor urged the nuke-wielding world leaders to visit the cities which were destroyed in the atomic attack and pledge to renounce similar nuclear attacks in future.
A peace rally was led by students, NSS volunteers of SNDT university and University of Mumbai, social activists and peace loving citizens holding placards that graphically depicted the horror of Nagasaki and Hiroshima and carrying huge banners portraying slogans like “NO More Hiroshima “and “We Want To Grow Not Blow Up”, that marched from Azad maidan to Hutatma Chowk on Wednesday.
