SCLR witnesses more vehicles after initial lull
After two days of thin traffic, the latest addition to the ever increasing list of flyovers in Mumbai, Santa Cruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) witnessed over 50,000 vehicles on Sunday. However, the authorities will know the actual traffic flow on the SCLR only on Monday, as Friday was a public holiday followed by a weekend.

Scores of commuters in Kalina and Kurla (W) complained of traffic bottlenecks on both ends of the SCLR. The congestions persisted all through afternoon on CST Road, particularly near the junction that leads to
Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).

"There is no proper traffic management for the SCLR. There are a few speed breakers close to the flyover, which cut the speed of approaching traffic and cause further stalemate. Also, there is no proper traffic management near the junction that connects the SCLR to BKC. There was complete disorder on Saturday, and the traffic bottlenecks persisted on Sunday, largely due to the rally at BKC," rued a Kalina resident.

Several Congress workers, who were heading for the rally, used the SCLR.

"It cut short over 30 minutes to reach BKC. Despite the traffic snarls on CST Road, we negotiated the distance between Ghatkopar and Kurla in eight-10 minutes. Earlier, it would have taken 40 minutes," informed a Congress worker.

A commuter travelling from Vikhroli to the domestic airport in Santa Cruz, said, "The SCLR was incredible, but the road surface requires to be made smooth for a better trip." There was a major jam before getting on the flyover from Chembur and the traffic came to a halt at a signal at the end of the flyover in Kurla (E).
