New Delhi: The Parliament passed the Special Protection Group (Amendment) Bill 2019 on Tuesday, mandating that a former Prime Minister's family members will only provide SPG protection cover for five years after the said leader demits the office. The bill was passed by the Lok Sabha last week while the Rajya Sabha gave its approval on Tuesday. It came as the government removed the Gandhi family's SPG shield. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has now taken over the safety of the Gandhi family – Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka.
