Maharashtra Water Resources Minister Sunil Tatkare was appointed President of state Nationalist Congress Party unit on Wednesday. He replaced Bhaskar Jadhav, who held the post since June 14, 2013.
In the presence of party supremo Sharad Pawar at the NCP working committee meeting, Jadhav proposed Tatkare's name for the post, which was seconded by senior party leaders Madhukar Pichad, Hassan Mushrif, Anil Deshmukh and Anna Dange.
Tatkare’s meteoric rise from sarpanch of a village to minister holding key portfolios like finance and water resources is ascribed to his managerial skills and modest approach to handle political crisis.
