Suspected LeT operative arrested in Haryana

A suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative, preparing to strike in the national capital and several other states, has been arrested from Haryana, police said Friday.
Mohammad Shahid, 32, a resident of Choti Mewli village in Mewat and the imam of the local mosque, was arrested from his house Dec 9, for his alleged links with the Pakistan-based terrorist organisation.
"He was regularly talking to Javed Baluchi, another LeT commander who is based in Pakistan. We have recorded some conversations between the two," a police official told IANS.
Shahid is in police custody till Dec 21, he added.
According to another officer, an input was received November end that members of the LeT group were trying to motivate youths for strike in Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan.
Shahid was introduced to Baluchi by another Mewati, whose name police refused to reveal. The two travelled to Pakistan in October, the officer said.
The accused was the part of a conspiracy of LeT to commit a terrorist strike in the national capital.
"Shahid revealed that he had joined the present module of LeT about six-seven months ago and since then he was being handled by local Mewat-based operatives," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Yadav.
Shahid further disclosed that LeT had made inroads in the region and his local handlers, who are presently absconding, were in touch with senior Pakistan-based LeT commanders.
"The module was at an advanced stage of planning a terrorist strike in the national capital," said Yadav.
According to the officer, Shahid was given responsibility for arranging the logistics and communication for the terrorist attack.
"The remaining members of this terrorist module, who have gone underground since the arrest of Shahid, are being identified and traced," he added.
