Mumbai no longer remains a safe haven for women. On Friday, a 23-year-old Haroon Shaikh mercilessly stabbed a teen-aged girl Afsana Ahmad to death in the Tagore area of Vikhroli East.
According to cops, Shaikh – a Govandi resident, worked as a driver in Vikhroli where Ahmad stayed. Though cops are yet to find out the precise reason behind the killing, they suspect that refusal to nuptials offer by the victim may have led to the murder.
A police officer at Vikhroli police station said, "The case has been filed under section 302 (punishment for murder) and the accused has been arrested. Shaikh was in love with the deceased and had recently proposed her for marriage and had arrived at Ahmad's residence with a marriage proposal along with his parents."
The body has been sent to Rajawadi hospital in Ghatkopar for postmortem
