To get away with the huge bottleneck traffic snarls and easy feasibility for commuting  within the city and connecting Suburbs, Government has given a positive nod for construction of Two new Metro routes
 
Route 1, Dahisar- Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd and Route 2, Wadala- Ghatkopar-Thane- Kasarvadavli sectors respectively. Besides this it has also approved for construction of 4 new Flyovers on the Bandra Kurla Junction to ease the traffic congestion in this area. This was confirmed at the 136th meeting of MMRDA on  November 20. The proposed new metro route Dahisar-Charkop- Bandra- Mankhurd ,will cover  a distance of 40 Kilometers and will have 36 stations and all will be underground, with its proposed cost to 25 thousand crores. Wadala- Ghatkopar- Thane –Kasarvadavli, will cover  a distance of 32 kilometers and will have 24 stations underground and 6 at elevated levels, at an estimated  cost to 19 thousand crores.
 
The proposed project to be completed within 5- 6 years
