On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet approved the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Act, 2020, which seeks to raise the limit for terminating pregnancy from 20 to 24 weeks if passed in parliament. The bill is intended to amend the Legal Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971 and will be presented at the parliament's upcoming budget session. It will also discourage informal termination of pregnancies and reducing the maternal mortality rate.
