A twenty-year old Madrassa teacher has been gang-raped in western Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut city on Monday, the police informed.

The girl who teaches at a religious seminary there was reportedly abducted by four men and taken to an isolated place before raping her.

The police sources revealed, the miscreants allegedly first forced her to embrace Islam and renounce her faith prior to outraging her modesty.  

Meanwhile, the rape has taken a political colour when several leaders cutting across political spectrum instead of condemning the incident, are trying to shield the culprits. The entire Meetrut Township has been gripped with tension but no untoward incident is reported until now.

The district administration is directed by the state government to keep strict vigil and post heavy police personnel at key sensitive areas to deal with any exigency.
