Viola Davis becomes the first black woman to win an Oscar, Tony and Emmy for acting

New York, February 27: The 89th Academy Awards saw history being created when Viola Davis scripted a new win to become the only black actress to win three awards and all of them for acting. She became the 23d person to complete the triple crown for acting. She accepted her award for Best Supporting Actress for the movie Fences today. 

Prior to Fences, Viola had won the Emmy in 2015 for Outstanding lead actress in a drama series, How to get away with Murder and two Tony awards first in 2001 for her work in King Hedley 2 andn then in 2010 for her in the broadway rendition of Fences. 

She now belongs to the coveted group of actors such as Al Pachino, Helen Mirren and Ingrid Bergman. Even legends such as Meryl Streep havnt completed the triad like Davis did after winning the oscar this year. She had previously earned an Oscar nomination for her role in the movie The Help. a
