Vote for Modi for India to become superpower: Vijayakant

People should vote for BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi so that India becomes a superpower, actor-turned-politician A. Vijayakant said here Saturday.
The DMDK chief also wondered why the AIADMK and the DMK are opposed to Lokayukta and anti-corruption courts. Addressing an election rally at Arcot, 115 km from here, Vijayakant said: "Modi should become prime minister if India has to become a superpower."
Contending his party continues to be in the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), he said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would announce the list of candidates for the state Sunday.
His comments came even as BJP cadres in the state were upset with the manner in which the DMDK unilaterally announced its candidates and began the campaign Friday for the Lok Sabha elections.
Praising former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee government's Golden Quadrilateral highway network, Vijayakant said there should also be "India sutrum valiban (India touring youth)" in addition to "ullagam sutrum valliban (world touring youth)" – a reference to popular film "Ullagam Sutrum Valiban" in which AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) starred as a hero.
Coming down heavily on the Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu, Vijayakant wondered why there was no government scheme named after MGR while all the schemes are named "Amma" – denoting Jayalalithaa.
He said he does not believe in caste or religion as one gets his food by hard work and not because of caste or religion.
