Due to burst in a pipeline that supplies potable water from Tansa Lake to Mumbai city, the BMC has imposed 25% water cut in the metropolis with immediate effect from Tuesday.
Well-placed sources in the civic agency said it has started repairing cracked pipeline in Thane district and it will be completed by tomorrow evening.
"The pipeline that supplies water to Mumbai has developed cracks at Vartak Nagar in Thane district. Due to this, we have enforced 25 per cent water cut in the western, eastern and southern parts of the city with immediate effect", Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ramesh Bambale said. A process called "isolation" is currently going on, where water supply to the affected pipe will be stopped to pave the way for repair work, he said.
"We hope the crack on the affected stretch would be fixed by Tuesday evening. Once the work is completed, we will start the regular water supply," Bambale added.
