Women safety is no longer guaranteed in Mumbai these days. A 21-year-old woman, looking for cigarettes early on Sunday morning along with her boyfriend, was pushed into a parked auto rickshaw and physically abused by three men. They have also beaten up her boyfriend and threatened to kill both of them.
The unpleasant event happened at a lonely area on the Sion-Dharavi Bridge near Raheja hospital at around 3 AM. The accused also robbed the couple's money and mobile phones and fled after the girl started shouting for help. Two of them – Abdul Shaikh, 22, and Farhad Sayyad, 21- were later detained by the Bandra police, while a hunt is on for the third accused.
The lady is an executive in a travel company while her 22-year-old boyfriend is a manager with another company. Both stays in Parel.
The couple was on a bike and wanted to buy cigarettes on the way home but most shops were closed. They decided to try near the Bandra railway station (west).
They discovered that all the shops on main roads at the station were closed after which they moved inside a narrow alley in a slum. They were still looking for the shop when the three accused approached them on a bike. They took the couple into confidence and told them that there was a shop open nearby and advised them to accompany if they wanted to buy cigarettes.
They took them to a secluded area on the Sion-Dharavi bridge near Raheja hospital, where they assaulted the boyfriend and pushed the girl inside a parked auto, where one of them physically abused her.
The victims informed Bandra police and a case of molestation and robbery was registered against three unidentified persons.
The Bandra police inquired with the local informers and incarcerated two of them.
